**Guidelines and syllabus 7th grade math/ Mrs. Gorman**

**Math Philosophy**I believe students can be successful in math. I maintain high expectations coupled with a positive environment. I enjoy teaching and appreciate my students in all of their uniqueness. My students are encouraged to be responsible and disciplined learners. Please team with me as teacher, student and parents or guardians to make this year a productive learning experience.

**Expectations**- Respect others
- Be on time and prepared for class
- Use appropriate language

**Homework Policy**

- All math work is to be completed in pencil.
- Show the math calculations
- Students and parents can expect math homework
- Daily assignments will be listed for the week in the classroom and on my website

**Grading Policy**This course will be graded with weighted points.

- Daily assignments are 30% and Cornell notes are 10% of the total grade
- Cumulative tests are 60% of the total grade.
**Common Core**

Common Core is math standards that are intended to create deeper understanding of mathematical concepts as well as procedural fluency. The Common Core’s emphasis is on fewer topics with greater depth. The students will have math units designed to reinforce Common Core standards.

**Homework Tips**Please encourage your child to maintain a homework schedule. My students are expected to be persistent in their efforts at math homework. My math class is an Avid classroom. All students will be expected to write a brief summary after instruction each day in their Cornell notes. They should review the notes daily and use them as well as the text to study for cumulative tests.

**Supplies**

Graph paper ( 2nd semester

- Pencils, highlighters and checking pens

The students are allowed to use phones or tablets for digital copies of the text. The digital textbook can be found on my website; the password is math. Electronic devices will not be used for music, social media or games in my classroom. Calculator use is only allowed on specific lessons as directed by the teacher. Students may be asked to text their parents if they have unfinished or lost homework papers or an exceptional test score.
